that is the rationale behind it being pressure controlled. what good is it to have cool oil if it doesn't go where is needs to go . ideally, the oil pump would have a pressure relief valve and vent extra oil back to the crankcase when there is too much oil pressure. in that case, a thermostatic oil cooler check valve and bypass valve system would be used because there would always be enough head pressure to pump oil through the oil cooler when necessary. but, if you have low oil pressure already, you do not want do decrease system oil pressure even more by increasing more system head losses. you have to fix the problems first before you can go about improving the system.
